My caviary started in the summer of 2011, with the purchase of Celeste and Cleo, two abysinnians from a local breeder. Celeste has decided to be antisocial and kicked Cleo out, so she lives on her own. Cleo moved in with two rescues, Ginny and Lulu. The three of them live in relative harmony in a swimming pool. While this pool contains both Lulu and Cleo, Ginny prefers to wander the apartment while I'm out. She's not horribly destructive so I don't worry much about it. The cats do leave her alone.

My pigs are kept on a corncob bedding that's meant to be horse stall bedding. They don't eat it, and it's very easy to keep clean and is super-absorbant. I feed pig pellets and use pelleted timothy hay to cut down on waste. It took the pigs a few weeks to adjust, but they now munch happily on the timothy pellets. They're given as much hay as they can eat. Rather than using drops, I use fresh produce to provide for my pigs' needs. Most pens have some sort of "hideout" but I prefer to use disposable hideouts like pop boxes and paper bags, because they have so much more fun with them. If I don't have anything, they might get a Pigloo, but usually they've got boxes. I don't currently have any boys, but my sows are kept neatly on shelves with underbed storage containers. I'd use something a bit more durable for horny boys!

You can check the show schedule, as I'll be visiting many local shows in order to find foundation stock. My Wanted page also has a listing of what I'm interested in acquiring. I've always been fond of Abysinnians, but I also like Teddies and some of the smooth varieties. I'm perfectly willing to transport rescues or bred stock back and forth from shows or other events. Don't forget to check the dogs shows listing as well, since I attend most of the dog shows in the area as well. The dog people have many more events than cavy people, so if you're interested, I can transport at any event.

Oh, and I rescue. I can always find room for more pigs, if necessary. It doesn't hurt that they're generally pretty good about getting along with each other. I'm also willing to take in other small animals, excepting rabbits and ferrets (rabbits because of size issues, ferrets because they are predatory.) I can even house reptiles and herps, if necessary. Many of my rescues get put up for adoption, so if you're looking for something, don't hesitate to ask or check the Available page.
